About Royal Caribbean International

Royal Caribbean International is a brand with an incredible history and unlimited potential. The cruise line not only sets new standards by the size of the ships, but also by its degree of innovation. Especially the entertainment programm on their vessels is a new invention. The ships are convincing due to a variety of sport offers and leisure activities for every age group. Particularly the outdoor area offers great experiences with ice rinks or zip lines. However not only the big vessels, but also the smaller ones offer plenty options to have fun in a relaxed atmosphere. In the different restaurants you expect tasty dishes combined with an attentive service. On board, all age groups feel at home. Due to the company’s heritage a basic knowledge in English is recommended. Another thing to take into considerations is that the additional costs are higher than on German ships.

The Ship

The Anthem of the Seas is part of the new Quantum class, introduced by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. She was built in the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg and is (together with her sister ship “Quantum of the Seas”) the biggest cruise liner ever built in Germany so far. With a length of 348 meters she offers enough space for more than 4.000 guests.

Atmosphere on board

On board the Anthem of the Seas all age groups are represented by an international public. The atmosphere is easy-going and relaxed, the service is friendly and highly professional – stereotypically American. Some of the evenings a formal dress code is expected in the main restaurant.

The basic supplies of all cabins include a television, a telephone, their own bathroom with a shower, a dresser and a hairdryer. The cabins are equipped with two twin beds that can be converted into a double-bed upon request. The size of the cabins is the largest on average of all ships of the entire fleet belonging to Royal Caribbean. Moreover, the inside cabins are provided with a special highlight: a virtual balcony with an ocean view.

The culinary offer aboard includes 18 restaurants, cafés and bars. Ranging from pizza to sushi, ice cream and donuts; from restaurants for healthy-living passengers to the traditional steakhouse: There is a culinary option for every taste to be found. The new dining concept on the ships of the Quantum class is called “Dynamic Dining”. This implies that no more traditional seating times have to be respected. You can freely decide when you would like to eat. The speciality restaurants aboard such as “The Wonderland” or “Jamie’s Italian” – the restaurant by the master chef Jamie Oliver – and “Michael’s Genuine Pub” are highly recommendable. All of these three restaurants are to be found exclusively on board the Anthem and the Quantum of the Seas.

The new highlight of the Anthem of the Seas surely is the North Star. The North Star is a glass ball that takes the passengers up to 90 meters above the sea and offers an impressive 270 degree panoramic view. For the special adrenaline rush you can make use of the on board skydive-simulator. Especially families will appreciate the Sea Plex. For the first time, aboard a cruise ship, you can enjoy facilities such as a bumper car ride or a circus school where acrobatic tricks are taught and can be exercised. Furthermore, passengers are also more than welcome to make use of attractions already well-established to the ships of Royal Caribbean. These attractions include the “Flowrider”, the climbing-wall and the Vitality Spa & Fitness Centre. Musical fans can also look forward to a performance of the famous musical “Mamma Mia”.

Aboard the Anthem of the Seas kids have their own area where they can play with other kids of their own age group and experience their holiday the way they want to. There are trained crew members who look after the children from the age of 6 months on during the day. Teenagers have their own area in the evening, such as the disco and the gym.

Sport & Wellness

The entirety of Deck 15 is dedicated to sports. Amongst others you will be able to locate the SeaPlex here, a jogging course, the climbing-wall as well as the Vitality Spa & Fitness Centre. The extended fitness area offers all necessary gym equipment and classes as well as a large Spa area. From a manicure over a range of different types of massages to Botox treatments, you can request everything to enhance your beauty or simply find relaxation. Moreover, you find the skydive-simulator and the “Flowrider” on Deck 16.

Our Summary / Our recommendation

The ship offers a wide range of opportunities for all age groups. It is not only due to the North Star that the Anthem of the Seas can be seen as a special experience. Also, the numerous innovative leisure opportunities that have never been offered on a cruise ship before, represent a big attraction to their customers. The combination of all mentioned assets, regarding entertainment and sport facilities, will turn the stay aboard into a once in a lifetime, unforgettable experience. The on board language is English. Therefore, we highly recommend a good basic knowledge in English, so you can enjoy the cruise and experiences fully.
