About Royal Caribbean International

Royal Caribbean International is a brand with an incredible history and unlimited potential. The cruise line not only sets new standards by the size of the ships, but also by its degree of innovation. Especially the entertainment programm on their vessels is a new invention. The ships are convincing due to a variety of sport offers and leisure activities for every age group. Particularly the outdoor area offers great experiences with ice rinks or zip lines. However not only the big vessels, but also the smaller ones offer plenty options to have fun in a relaxed atmosphere. In the different restaurants you expect tasty dishes combined with an attentive service. On board, all age groups feel at home. Due to the company’s heritage a basic knowledge in English is recommended. Another thing to take into considerations is that the additional costs are higher than on German ships.

The Ship

Explorer of the Seas was put into service in 2000 as the second ship of Royal Caribbean’s Voyager-class. The ship is 311 metres long, 48 metres wide and offers a wide range of activities and a high-end cruise vacation on 15 decks.

Atmosphere on Board

The Explorer has got much to offer for everybody – young and old. Most of the guests on board are from the USA, especially on the short-term cruises starting from Miami. But the menues and daily information are available in several languages.

Overall, the atmosphere on board is quite relaxed and casual. But on special evenings formal dress is expected in the main restaurant.

A bottle of wine in the restaurant or at a bar costs from about 25 U.S. $. All services are, as usual on American vessels, subject to a service fee.

All staterooms are furnished comfortably and quite spacious. Numerous cabins have got their private balcony. Also, there are cabins with a view over the promenade in the middle of the ship.

The cuisine on board is very good and can be enjoyed to the full in each of the restaurants. The architecture of the main restaurant (over three decks) is based on the First-Class dining-hall of the “Titanic”. Or you can have Italian delicacies in the more intimate specialty restaurant which you can reserve on board (additional fee).

Whether you prefer a quiet atmosphere or a party in the disco: from piano music to Broadway-style shows to disco there is a huge range of different entertainment offers. On board there are art auctions with pictures from famous artists, the ever-popular bingo games and lectures about the ports of call.

Sport and Leisure

The spa offers a large fitness area with stunning ocean views, a swimming pool with a relaxation area (“Solarium”), various sports classes such as Aerobics or Pilates (some at an additional charge), a sauna and a steam room (separated by gender). In the spa, a wide range of wellness and beauty treatments is offered (extra charge).

Besides, there are further pools and whirlpools on deck which invite you to swim and bathe.

Our Recommendation

Explorer of the Seas is a huge cruise ship which offers a big variety of entertainment, sports, dining etc. On board, almost everything is possible – whether you like to ice-skate, to play miniature golf or you like to climb the wall 50 metres above the sea. The cuisine is delicious. The main on board language is English. You can expect a professionally organised cruise of high quality.
