About Norwegian Cruise Line
Travelling with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is synonymous to informality and liberty. NCL names their concept “Freestyle Cruising”. There are no classic “first and second seatings” for dinner – just feel free to dine whenever and where you like. Choose from a variety of à la card or buffet restaurants and enjoy the casual atmosphere throughout the ship. No wish for “black tie evenings”? Then NCL just suits you fine. Here is no constraint. The guests on Norwegian Cruise Line’s ships are an interesting international mix and English is the main onboard language – though usually not the only one.
The Norwegian Jewel was delivered to Norwegian Cruise Line summer 2005. She was the first ship of the “Jewel-Class” and was followed by the “Jade”, “Pearl” and “Gem”. With a length of 294m and a maximum of about 2,400 passengers she is a mid-sized vessel in the NCL fleet with lots of bars, restaurants and entertainment options.
Atmosphere on board
Like on all of NCL’s ships the atmosphere is very casual. For example the only dress-code for the main restaurants is “no shorts and no swim-wear”. Nevertheless, if you love to wear a festive attire, just feel free to do it – or even attend one of the festive evenings offered in selected restaurants. NCL offers holidays that are perfectly suited for the younger (or young in mind) as well as families. Though you will find lots of sportive and fun activities and will surely have a chance to party at night you can also find quiet and calm places to relax and unwind.
All staterooms are tastefully decorated and provide enough space. While interior cabins offer approximately 13m² of space exterior cabins provide about 15m² and cabins with balcony 19m². Beds in interior and exterior cabins stand seperately while the extra beds in cabins for triple and quadruple occupancy are usually foldaway upper beds. There are several options for suites as well, but the “Haven Garden Villa” is truely outstanding. With more than 450m² she belongs to the largest and most luxurious accomodations on the seven seas.
Food and Beverages
As dining options the Norwegian Gem offers more than a dozen different restaurants, bistros and cafés as well as pizza delievery service. For some of the specialty restaurants an additional fee is charged; these include the steakhouse, a French restaurant, a Teppanyaki restaurant and several more. Many of the dining options are complimentary. Across the ship guests enjoy 12 different bars and lounges including a large casino.
Entertainment, Sports and Relaxation
One of the main attractions in the evening is the Stardust Theatre with a capacity of more than 1,000 visitors where spectacular shows are entertaining the guets every night. Thanks to the many choices everyone will quickly find his or her favorite bar and lounge or may even go dancing at the night club and sing karaoke. Kids may enjoy the supervised “Tree Tops Kid’s Club” and youngsters will surely have fun in the large video arcade.
You enjoy sports? Enjoy the large and modern fitness area, go running on the jogging-track, play Basketball or Volleyball, play tennis or improve your golf driving. Go swimming or relax in one of the six hot tubs. If you prefer to relax, indulge in the numerous spa treatments or feel young after a visit to the beauty parlour. Whatever you are looking for – the Norwegian Gem will most likely have it.
